Privacy & play nice

๐Ÿค Play nice

Doodle Arcade is for having fun together. By playing, you agree to keep it that way:

Games are not recorded, so I can't look back at what happened in a room. If someone spoils the fun, leave the room (the host closes it for everyone by leaving). If something serious happens, you can email me at doodlearcadegames@gmail.com.

The games are free and offered as they are, as a hobby project. I do my best to keep them running, but I can't promise they always work.

๐Ÿ”’ Privacy

Short version: no accounts, no cookies, no ads, and I don't keep anything that tells me who you are.

Who is responsible

Doodle Arcade is a non-commercial hobby project run by one person. For any question about your data, email doodlearcadegames@gmail.com.

What stays on your device

Your name, your doodle, your reaction texts, your own words, your sound setting and which updates you've seen are saved in your browser (local storage), so you don't have to set them up again. They never reach me. You can remove them by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Playing together

Games run directly between the players' browsers. Your name, doodle, drawings, guesses and reactions are sent only to the other players in your room, and nothing is saved once the game ends. To find each other, browsers use the free PeerJS service (peerjs.com) and Google's connection helper (STUN). As with a video call, a direct connection means the other players' browsers can see your IP address.

Visitor statistics

I use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits: which pages are opened, where visitors came from, and the country, browser and type of device. It uses no cookies, doesn't identify you and doesn't follow you to other sites. I use it to see which games people play, which is my legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Hosting and outside files

The site is hosted by Vercel, and the fonts come from Google Fonts. Like any website, these services see your IP address when your browser loads their files, and may keep it briefly in their logs for security. Some of them are based in the US. They rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or the EU's standard contractual clauses.

Emails

If you email me, I only use your address and message to reply and to improve the games, and I delete them when they're no longer needed.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask to see, correct or delete your data, or object to how it's used. Since I don't store anything that identifies you, there's usually nothing to find, but you're always welcome to ask. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in the Netherlands, that's the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
